I must admit the inner child got hold on me when I saw this fun looking Papa Smurf icon in the iTunes app store. Clicking it took me to Capcom’s Smurf Village game which amazingly is free to download!
I was sold within seconds and just had to try it out!

Oh boy, downloading The Smurfs’ Village certainly wasn’t dissapointing. The game is just gorgeous. Graphics, music and gameplay are spot on.

Smurfs Village lets you rebuild the Smurfs homes after Gargamel stumbles upon their village. You get to construct Greedy Smurf’s bakery, Smurfette’s house, Papa Smurf’s laboratory, bridges and paths and loads more.
It’s your personal white and blue version of game classics like SimCity or The Settlers.

Building is great, but Smurfs get hungry too. That’s where the Farmville cloning happens. You can put your smurfs to work by sowing and harvesting crops. Speeding things up is easy too by building Farmer smurf’s home close to your fields.

But there’s more than farming and building! You’re sent on quests by notable Smurfs like Papa Smurf, Greedy Smurf and Sleepy Smurf. The quests are amazingly entertaining minigames. Those earn you money and experience points.

Smurfberries can speed things up and buy you lots of extra’s. The berries can be bought in the Smurfberry shop – and here’s the catch – for real world money. And I must admit – in a first – I went on a premium Smurfberry shopping spree which cost me $19,99. I haven’t regretted it for one second! And I’m not the only one in less than three months “Smurf’s Village” had become the most profitable game in the app store, beating previous record holder “Angry Birds” by a mile.

The Smurfs’ Village is magical and wildly entertaining. The game is top rated in the iTunes store and over 360.000 people have joined the game’s Facebook fanpage.

The Smurf’s village is available as a free download for the iPod, iPhone and iPad in the iTunes app store.

#3 And the bronze medal goes to the massively popular ‘Farmville‘ game from Zynga. The game has over 61 million active farmers yet we’re not really sure what the attraction is here, really… Sowing and harvesting crops isn’t that much fun doing it for the gazillionth time in our opinion.

#2 Fantastic news! Civilization V is released this month and the the most popular strategy game ever is also coming to Facebook!
In the meantime this game from Playdom will fill in the gap nicely.
‘City of Wonder‘ is loads of fun and offers much more things to do than what most social media games have to offer. This game is one of the few that has a really nice soundtrack too. And yeah… ‘City of Wonder’ also requires you to farm and harvest food for your citizens.
None the less this game offers a great mix of city planning, trade, economy and warfare with your neighbouring city.

#1 And the gold goes to… ‘Restaurant City‘!
This is the game we’ve wasted the most time on and admittedly enjoying every minute of it. The game is constantly updated with extra features and decorations and it’s just lots of fun!
Hire you’re Facebook friends and employ them as waiters, cleaners or chefs fand open, decorate and expand your own restaurant.
Oh yeah and for some reason you can grow and farm your own crops. Not sure where the guys from Playfish got that idea from…

Last year Stargate SG-1 got cancelled, now another gate closes down… but you can’t send a great tv series in oblivion! Bad news aside, 2008 proves to be a HUGE Stargate year!

Stargate SG-1 survived several cast changes, spawned a succesful sister series Stargate Atlantis and the show’s heroes were victorious against many foes. But the show starring Richard Dean Anderson, Beau Bridges and Amanda Tapping didn’t survive the number crunching bureaucrats at SciFi Channel’s headquarters.

More bad news…

Now after 5 succesful seasons, Stargate Atlantis also needs to close down.

SciFi channel wants a noughties scifi series with a younger cast, as apparently Stargate Atlantis is too much "nineties" for them.

But hang on there’s loads of good news too!

Birth of a new Stargate!

And so, a new Stargate series will grace our television screens: Stargate Universe.

The series will feature a fresh cast and the much liked Stargate touch but with a darker edge than fans are used.

The storyline will center around a Stargate crew trapped on board an ancient spaceship.

Stargate universe will fill the void other spaceship based scifi series like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica left behind.

The bad news aside, 2008 actually proves to be a huge Stargate year so far.

Two direct to DVD Stargate SG-1 movies have been released with impressive domestic sales numbers:
* Stargate SG-1: Ark of Truth first week sales 251,642 units ($4.2 million)
* Stargate SG-1: Continuum first week sales 251,642 units ‘$4.8 million)

With such great numbers, more movies seem likely!

Also a Stargate Atlantis movie, has already been commisioned. It’ll be a standalone movie as the show’s producer Joseph Malozzi announced that the 100th and final Stargate Atlantis episode won’t end on a cliffhanger.

And that’s not all! Also the highly anticipated video game Stargate Worlds will see the light of day this year. The previews for the game so far have all been promising!

How about your flop 3 of games?

	#1: Mario Party 8 I’ve played older versions of this partygame going back to Mario Party 3. Unfortunately the game just hasn’t progressed as far as it could. The minigames are fun but they rely to much on good luck more then anything. And honestly the rest of the game is just plain boring. Bring back the boardgames!
	#2: Battallion Wars II   This game has nice cartoony graphics, but the game levels are just too linear. Also the lacking of a multiplayer option handicaps the game severely. It’s a missed opportunity, but as it is the game isn’t as much fun as it could and should be.
#3: Wii Fit	Ok, this is a bit weird I know…   I also included this one in my top 5 of Nintendo Wii games but hang on…I actually LOVE the concept of the Wii Balance Board very much. Playing sports, doing yoga,… it all works impressively well.   But after a while, the novelty wears of and you just don’t get around to playing it after a month or 2. Well, that was the case with me anyway… A #3 on the flop list, but still looking forward to new games for the balance board!
