Both sides of the political aisle in the US have plenty to be ashamed of. Obstructionism has been used plentifully by both Democrats and Republicans. The early promises of Obama have sadly turned out to be nothing more than political hype. Add this to the soaring deficit spending and we can be assured of continued problems.

Solutions are few are far between I'm afraid. Unless that is you've invented a time machine that would allow us to travel back in time to educate the American electorate. The saying is that you get the government you deserve and I'm afraid the state of ignorance in the US means they don't deserve much of a government. A populace that can so easily forget the wrongs of the past decade (some of which you can see here: http://theendisalwaysnear.blogspot.com/2009/12/decade-of-nothingness.html ) can easily be manipulated. Making matters worse, the Supreme Court recently opened up campaign advertising to corporations and unions meaning the people will be bombarded with messages to support candidates who are in the pockets of big business, big oil, big pharma, you name it. Lucky we're in Europe!

I must say I am impressed with your write-up especially after reading several other articles on American situation. yours is definitely head on to the topic. Its true that the previous government brought in a lot of strife for the US and also spoiled their name among the other international countries. I still cant understand how the former government could put up that board on "Miss Me Yet" after all the atrocities that happened during their rule. Hope American people give enough space for Obama administration to do damage control and lead the US out of the turmoil. Good luck.
