But in the case of “The X-Files: I Want To Believe”, it’s totally unfounded…
I had low expectations for this one actually after reading all those “ho-hum” reviews. To top that I didn’t like the first movie at all.
Imagine my shock at the movies when it panned out totally different, I was very pleasantly surprised! Even my girlfriend who never saw the TV epidodes really loved it.
Maybe it’s a conspiracy of its own kind, closing the X-Files with critic’s venom?
Great Movie!
effects we’re all used too.
The movie grabs you from the first scene. Shots from an army of FBI agents searchingfor a body on a icy, frozen lake mixed with flashbacks to the kidnapping of an FBI agent in wintry West Virginia. The scene climaxes into a find on the ice in the present and the overpowerment of the female victim in the past.
The second scene featuring Dana Scully is a powerful, moving one. Dr. Scully done with the FBI, works at a clinic now and is being told by experts that an 8 year old patient of hers is incurable. Gillian Anderson really is at her best in this movie, as is David Duchovny.
The dark, cold locations give this movie a fitting eery feel, the reworked X-Files theme is breathtaking and Mulder and Scully still have chemistry. Combined with excellent camerawork and a great standalone script by … Carter and … this is a solid movie.
Contrary to many critics opinions all too willingly sabling this movie down,”The X-files 2″ isn’t just a prolonged TV script. It’s a polished, enjoyable and captivating movie that many will enjoy.
If you’re at the movies and not sure what to see, I can certainly recommend “The X-files: I Want To Believe”!
In short this movie is a hidden gem… but hussshhh!… it’s a secret!
Watch the trailer!
Box Office Numbers are in!
First week of release the movie raked in $10,021,753 domestic gross.
But judging by ticket sales in Europe the movie is getting more than the lukewarm US reception in the rest of the world.
We’ll keep you up to date on the numbers!
***UPDATE!*** As predicted The X-files: I Want To Believe did a much better job interntionally with a foreign gross of $45,355,000 million and a domestic gross of $20,982,478. (18 november 2008)

Sometimes it’s just cool to break a movie down. It’s a bad hype or vibe if you will.

Thanks for this great review. You captured the feel of the movie very well and you’re exactly right about the critics.
I think too many people had specific expectations of the film and, when it wasn’t what they wanted it to be, they turned on it and seemed to need to almost punish it in their reviews. I, for one, loved it for what it was and have seen it quite a few times.
